CBD Guide for Beginners

Hello! Welcome to CannaWell’s guide to CBD for beginners. Whether you have been sent this information by a friend who would like you to learn more, found us via a web search or are expanding on your CBD journey, you are in great company for learning more.
CannaWell are offering CBD since 2015. We are acknowledged as one of the pioneers of the British Hemp CBD industry. This means we have five years experience in listening to our customers and providing the information you need to make informed choices. Some questions remain a constant, others are unique. Today we want to share with you the most common questions about CBD: what is CBD, how it works in your body, how to determine what is safe and which type of CBD product would suit you best.

What is CBD and where does it come from?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is the most abundant occurring natural cannabinoid in the hemp plant. Hemp belongs to the latin genus species cannabis, just like it’s cousin, marijuana. The main difference is that hemp does not get you high and hemp is also used for industrial applications, such as construction, bio plastics and textiles. In the UK, hemp means it is cannabis with less than 0.2% THC, which is the psychoactive compound that gets you high, when grown on the field.

CBD and the other cannabinoids are extracted from the aerial parts of the hemp plant, which includes primarily the flower and leaves. The seeds are very popular for their exceptionally high protein content and their perfect ratio of omega 3, 6 and 9.

How does CBD work?

Did you know that you have an endocannabinoid system (ECS)? The ECS is perhaps the most important body system involved in establishing and maintaining our health. It is part of the central nervous system and has a network of receptors which spread through our entire body. The ECS plays a key role in regulating so many physiological and cognitive processes and it’s purpose is to achieve homeostasis, or ‘inner balance’.

CBD primarily interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, a grouping of millions of cannabinoid receptors that are found throughout your body but are primarily clustered in the brain and central nervous system, but also in your organs, in every immune cells and on your skin. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for maintaining general health and wellness throughout the body.

While CBD is a phytocannabinoid (or plant-based cannabinoid) your body also naturally produces cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids.

Unlike THC, CBD does not interact strongly with the two classical cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2). This is why CBD does not cause any psychoactive effect. Instead, CBD inhibits the enzymes that break down endocannabinoids, leading to an increase in your body’s naturally-produced cannabinoids.
Hemp including naturally occurring cannabinoids is an important food source to keep your body in the best possible health considering your circumstances.

Will CBD cure my condition?

Unfortunately, due to the European Health Claims regulations, CannaWell and other CBD manufacturers are not permitted to make any claims about positive effects CBD may have on your health.

What we can say is that CBD is health promoting and that it supports your overall health and wellbeing. You can also do your own research to find out more about whether CBD can support your specific needs.

What type of CBD should I take? How much should I take?

One of the first questions people have when getting started with CBD is what kind of product should I use, and how much should I take? Let’s look at the different types of CannaWell CBD products we offer:

CBD Oils

We offer two different types of CBD oils, the Hemp BALANCE and Hemp CBD, both are available in 3 strengths. The Hemp Balance contains both CBD and CBDA, which is the raw in the plant and also very health promoting. The Hemp CBD is a CBD extract only. Both CBD oils are available in 3 strength; 2.5%, 5% and 10%. As a simple guidance, if you want something to maintain and support you, we would suggest that you consider chosing the 2.5% or 5% oil, if you need that extra system support, you may want to take a stronger product such as the 5% or 10%.

Often people will start with a lower strength oil, try it and find out how many drops works for them. If you then find that you take more than 10 drops per serving, we would suggest that you consider buying the next strength up, as it would also work out more cost effective.

CBD Cream and Body Balm

The cream has a wonderful consistency, it is non-greasy, absorbent and suitable for problematic skin. The body balm has a refreshing scent and is relaxing and soothing applied on our body.

How do I know it’s good quality and safe?

There have been newspaper articles and a lot of recent public discussion about the safety of CBD. Many consumers fear that they can’t trust CBD manufacturers that the products contain what it says on the label and are concerned that the supplements may contain harmful ingredients or contaminants.

BioCert CannaTherapy

CannaWell are certified organic with the Organic Food Federation since 2018 and our CBD oils are made from outdoor grown, European hemp. In order to achieve organic certification the final oils are certified because every step of the way, from the field to the bottle has been audited. CannaWell offer genuine high quality, pure hemp CBD nutrition. Equally, our CannaTherapy cream has a European Bio-Certificate. Natural, clean, vegan, loved.

How will I know if it’s working?

Some of our customers have found it helpful to use a daily journal. Just write down time of day, strength of product and number of drops you’ve been taking. Some time, about after an hour, sit back and feel into your body. Make any notes you feel are appropriate. You may find certain patterns which will give you an insight into how CBD works within your body.

Due to the regulations, we cannot give you hints or advice of what CBD “feels” like when it’s working. It is best to remember that when we consume quality hemp extracts, rich in hemp nutrients, we provide important and valuable nutrition to our body’s endocananbinoid system, helping it to work better which in turn tends to increase our overall health and wellbeing.
